SMSP19 Environment Cornella Water Museum

The pupils visited the Museu Agbarde les AIgues in Cornellà de Llobregat which is a contemporary museum devoted to water. 

They were given a questionnaire and they had to find the answers in pairs with their pen-friends who translated the explanations from Catalan into English. They developed their knowledge through a living, learning, and leisure experience. It gave them the opportunity to see an operating industry and to consider water from different viewpoints. The place was inaugurated in 1909 to extract water from the aquifer of the lower valley of the River Llobregatand supply Barcelona which was expanding rapidly. You can still see the steam machinery necessary to produce the energy required to move the pumps of the wheel, the Fives Lille, and the big impulse pumps in charge of pumping the water to the city (3 interlinked solid brick industrial workshops with iron beams). Many interactive modules and audiovisualresources are offered to the visitors.

This opportunity to test and learn through videos, posters and experimental exercises was great. It was a privileged place to discover and explore a historical industrial building where huge machinery is used to extract the water from the ground to supply water to the population and it made our pupils understand the importance of water and how steam machinery works.
