The action aims at making students understand the issues of Sustainable Development in order to act as responsible citizens, particularly studying the relationship between environmental, economic, social & cultural issues. This experience also contributes not only to involving this class in the implementation of Sustainable Development in their high school, but also to mobilizing all students (and staff) in the school and changing individual and collective behaviour.
A teacher raises the students’ awareness of environmental issues through economic documents: definitions, diagrams… and pedagogical documents : texts from French Ministry of National Education incorporating Sustainable Development into the new high school curricula and measures taken for Sustainable Development in all French schools, from the beginning of the 2019 school year. Then, they ask themselves how their school respects the Sustainable Development Goals and offer projects that could contribute to promoting environmentally responsible actions throughout the school.
The students are divided into pairs, each pair creates a slide show that presents how Jean Bart high school fits into Sustainable Development and exposes it to 2 Seconde or First classes of the school.
At the end of their presentation, they encourage the students to be the « éco-délégué » of their class by being an environmentally responsible student model and raising classmates’ awareness of everyday actions that help to save energy and fight global warming
